Biography of Louise Novros

Louise Novros
Councilmember since 2006
Chair, Community Services Committee
Member, Public Safety Committee

“When I see a problem, I fix it—I don’t run away from it” has always been my approach to issues. My community service started in 1985 when I established the Roselawn Neighborhood Association to find a solution to our sidewalk problems and to demand a change in the way decision-making was being done in the town. In 1987, I, along with five other neighborhood association presidents, formed Brighton Neighbors United (BNU), an umbrella group which is still working to keep all neighborhoods in the town informed about town issues.

Before being elected to the Brighton Town Council in 2006, I served on many town-appointed Boards, including the 2000 Comprehensive Plan Committee, the Beautification Committee, and the Communications Task force. I have also served on the following Boards in the community: the Strong Memorial Hospital Patient Advisory Board, the Customer Advisory Council for the U.S. Postal Service, the Brighton Task Force for Healthy Communities/Healthy Youth, the JCC Center Stage, the Roselawn Neighborhood Association, and the Brighton Chamber of Commerce, and was the past Democratic Election Inspector Coordinator for East and Central Brighton. I am also a volunteer for the Wills Clinic for the Volunteer Legal Services.

Town government is the most accessible level of government to our citizens and the only level of government most people have personal contact with. I believe our primary responsibilities as a Town government is to ensure the safety of our residents, provide good fiscal management of the Town’s budget, responsibly implement the Town’s Comprehensive Plan and, above all, remain available to our constituents. My commitment to these beliefs is seen in the many community programs I have started in the Town—programs like Clean Sweep, Electronics Recycling and Paper Shredding & Recycling, and the Pharmaceutical “Take Back” program.

I welcome hearing from fellow Brightonians to help with any concerns or issues you may have. I especially seek input on new programs or ideas you may be interested in implementing in the Town.
