Explorer Program
The Brighton Police Department sponsors a Law Enforcement Career Explorers post for young people ages 14 through 20 who have completed at least 8th grade. There are more than 33,000 Law Enforcement Explorers in the United States.
Those involved in Exploring learn about careers in law enforcement through lectures, tours, and hands-on activities. There are opportunities for community service experiences. Explorers receive advice from Brighton Police officers as to what steps they should be taking to prepare for careers in Law Enforcement.
BPD Explorers get firsthand looks at police weapons and the insides of police vehicles. They meet police K-9 units and take tours of places like the Brighton Police Department, the local Police Academy, the county Medical Examiner's Office, and the Monroe County Emergency Communications Department (9-1-1 Center).
The Brighton Police Explorers meet at the Police Department on the first Tuesday of each month from 6:30 p.m. until about 7:30 p.m. The annual fee is $20. Participants younger than 18 years of age need to have a parent's signature to join.
